Renault History

THE BEGINNING

Established in 1898 by brothers Louis, Marcel, and Fernand Renault, the company saw great success with its “voiturette,” receiving twelve orders for it that same year. Strengthened by its initial victory, the company continued innovating to make its clients’ daily lives easier through need-specific services and vehicles designed to be true companions on the road. Renault played a significant role in World War I, exemplified most notably through its “Taxis de la Marne”. The company was nationalized after World War II before becoming private once more in the 1990s.In 1990, Renault changed its status and became a public limited company with State capital. Renault's privatization, which was discussed several times, became effective in 1996.Renault opens the Seguin Island plant in Boulogne-Billancourt. The prestigious Reinastella, an 8-cylinder, was produced there. At this time, the brand is already present in 49 countries. As early as 1924, the diamond appeared. With its angles it adapts to the lines of the dihedral-shaped hoods. The new logo is introduced by the top-of-the-range 40 CV Type NM sedan. It will be redesigned over the years, but the diamond is definitely imposed from that year.
